Maya Ubud, Bali

The choice of accomodation on Bali is overwhelming. When I came to the island for the first time, I had no overview at all how to search for a suitable hotel. Maybe that was also one of the reasons why started a site like this. Well, you can browse the different areas of Bali on websites like Tripadvisor, Asia Rooms or Expedia and click on the rated listings, look at all pictures and read through all reviews. You will read lots of positive and negative things about the very same hotel. It won’t really help you. The only thing that always helped me for finding potential hotels at places I had not seen yet was : get an overview of the geography and places you want to visit first, then look at the pictures and imagine yourself walking around there and how you might feel there and how it might fit to your preferences. That’s how I always picked the hotels at new places , sometimes I got surprised, but my imagination mostly had a very correct tendency even before having visited it.

maya_ubud_bali_1_globalnanpa

On the recent trip I had a prepaid villa in Seminyak, Disini Villas. I got so sick of Bali that I handed over the villa for free to my Indonesian designer. I booked for K.and me a 1 way ticket with Garuda to Yogyakarta which was one of my better moves. Spontaneous trips always proved to be the right decision in the past. Just fuck some lost money, you must follow your feelings. The high society people in Seminyak and the other extreme, the drunk Australian stupids at Kuta really became hard to bear for me. Nightlife is a joke compared with Jakarta, island shit. The only good place is located on the 4th flor of Anantara hotel, Seminyak. It is a stylish place, reminds me a bit of the Jakarta Dragonfly people, but too much show.

maya_ubud_4_bali_globalnanpa

Daytime action also isn’t that great. The beaches suck : ALL of them. Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran : what do they offer ? Hm, nothing that dazzles me…

Bali is dealing with serious problems like fresh water supply and waste management. The southern part of Bali is about to get dried up from the luxury hotels and overconstruction. I had the feeling that nothing really gets done to improve things. The future of the No.1 SEA tourist destination is in big danger in the next 1-2 decades. I figured out that I can find much nicer spots in Indonesia for a small fraction of the current price levels there.

The only area I still like on Bali is Ubud. They have a few good hotels there, the best one is Maya Ubud, the wife of the Indonesian president also picked that hotel for a reason. Hanging Gardens is famous because it is so deep in the “jungle” but expect a lot of inconvenience there. The GHM hotel group/Chedi got a very nice hotel there too, The Four Seasons Sayan is there but not a great one, then there is another really good hotel named Kapu Kapu Barong (”butterfly”) where we had lunch you see in the picture below. Another excellent restaurant in Ubud is Mosaik restaurant.

Angeles University Foundation, Medical Center, Pampanga, Philippines

When I went to this university, I didn’t know anyone. A few hours later when I went there, I had the chance to talk with some really interesting people. In general the university impressed me in many ways and it broadened my view. It was chance that Prof. R.C. Pagulayan, executive director, research and development, also spoke German because he got his Ph.D. from Germany. I went there to establish possible cooperations for Global Happy Pills. Some people might surprise to hear that but Global Nanpa/Global Happy Pills actually has a good intention for making a positive impact on the world. The incredible friendliness of the people who had not been brainwashed whom I meet along the way in South East Asia always encourage me to keep on working hard on my goals. Money is mainly a tool for me I need for being able to create things at a faster speed and to ultimately help transforming our monetary economy into a resource-based one.

Global Nanpa’s “Bangkok Party” @ 808, RCA : SO FUCKIN SEXY !

It is hard to believe that this happened just 1 month ago. It all seems so far away and unreal once you are back in your daily, hardcore work routine. For me it is healthy and wise that I am not doing this full-time. This long trip was also the one with the least alcohol consumption since my very first Thailand trip 2005. Moreover I worked out at Wow California every 3rd day in Bangkok to be able to maintain the strenghts. 1 quarter of my time I am now devoting to Global Nanpa. I never wanted to become a blogger, i am also not a good writer. I think I have a good sense for what’s really going on in the world, enjoy organizing things and hanging out with creative people and of course sexy girls. That’s probably why I started this site. I simply could not find anything in the web that came close to the idea which is now Global Nanpa, so I had to start it myself. Global Happy Pills will be bringing me back more to my roots in the future.

dj_aof_oriental_hotel_bkk1

In the picture above you see DJ Aof at the Oriental hotel from the fresh created team “Bangkok Electro” (DJ Vann, DJ Aof, DJ M). The tracks they came up with on the Global Nanpa “Bangkok Party” are out of this world.  I also plan to fly them in for the upcoming Jakarta event. Some members of the old team will hopefully be flying in as well. Thank god Air Asia has a BKK-JKT connection, although not with the best flight times…paying Malaysia Air for everyone would get expensive.

The quality (lighting+resolution) simply wasn’t high enough to bring this video to a broader audience over a Thai TV station - other than that, they really liked it. I have plenty of time left, no need to rush things and eventually at a certain point wrecking the style and image along the way. Next time for the Jakarta event I might rent some professional video equipment and maybe ask someone as well to help me with shooting and editing. This time the video gets exclusively released on Vimeo.

Enough words written, so here we go. Check out the video :

Terra incognita : Global citizen @ Four Seasons hotel, Bangkok

“My country is the world, and my religion is to do good.”

One of the main original ideas of the concept of Global Nanpa was to show how places really look like, trying it in an amateur, high quality POV style but still not professional or manipulated promoted : not using sophisticated video editing tools and not cutting scenes together which got shot over and over again for a perfectional look and appearance. NO : Global Nanpa lets the camera run, shows unwanted and embarrasing scenes, it is simply the truth and reality - a very powerful combination. I fully believe that this kind of POV (travel) reporting will have a tremendous impact on the world and Global Nanpa is the pioneer. I videotape places, discuss topics, and act in ways nobody has ever done before on public video. It serves the purpose to entertain and inform other people and to create a database of my own personal memories. Ultimately this will change the lifestyle of other, especially younger people, switching from a path of solely pursueing money/fame/power to pursueing memories/experiences/happiness.

Global Nanpa : Leisure and Seducing in Style

I just came back from my last trip (Jakarta, Bali, Bangkok), which was very inspiring, fun, stresssful and full of mind-blowing experiences. I think this nostalgic picture above of Sierra’s first mid-80s adventure game explains pretty well what currently flows through my mind. I played that game in the early 90s and was intrigued by the concept and its success. It reminds me now that I would have never thought to be able to live a life as I had just done during the recent trip, also taking into account that I was born into a normal, western, upper-middle class family. The most striking thing is that a decent percentage of people could enjoy their life a similar way. This blog/videos help a little on the way for newbies to explore the territory, later just see it as entertainment for remembering your own good times and in addition get updated what currently goes on there. It will take a few weeks to work through the material.

Damn it. What a ride !!!

Shangri-la hotel Surabaya can be so sexy and the concept of Global Nanpa

In the pic above you see my friend K. That is probably one of my best pics I shot during the recent trip. I even use this picture as my mobile phone wallpaper. She is an extremely cool person and I am very lucky to got to know her. She had just come back from Dubai where she worked for Grand Hyatt Dubai. I will visit her again later this year and then she goes back to Dubai most likely. She got a B.Sc. in chemical engineering but went into hospitality probably because of better opportunities and more exciting work. The salaries being paid on Bali in hospitality are ridiculously low, no wonder why lots of girls in SEA really like to work in Saudia Arabia, but Dubai is having a lot of problems now as well. The construction boom is over for a long time and the chance that Dubai isn’t able to pay back its loans lies somewhere around 25%, incredible. Shanghai certainly has a much better and solid outlook. Their boom was/is based on much more fundamental developments.

The time with K. was even better than what I had with O. on Koh Chang over Loy Krathong last year. I will later release a special tribute video for her. We get along pretty well, she is smart and has a charming sense of humor. She is actually from Surabaya. This is also the reason why I made a spontaneous trip with her to Surabaya, still keeping my bookings running for Jakarta. So i had paid Grand Hyatt in Jakarta whereas I was staying in Shangri-la hotel Surabaya. But it was only one day anyway. The city looks a bit like Jakarta, but it is not so fast-paced, people have more time and are really friendly. The Grand Hyatt hotel in Jakarta is cool, but it looks cold and very business-like. The Shangri-la in Surabaya is the complete opposite : very open, colorful, javanese art on the walls, extremely friendly staff. Grand Hyatt closed their hotel in Surabaya sometime ago. I think Surabaya is certainly worth a 2-3 day visit. We visited some sights there, a nice restaurant, a shopping mall and in the evening we went to Blowfish which I like more than the one in Jakarta. Video is coming later. Special thanks to Leo, the manager there.

The end of this video might be especially interesting for people new on Global Nanpa. It explains shortly what Global Nanpa is all about : Living the life right now and not tomorrow :

What is Nanpa ?

by globalnanpa in About

What is Nanpa ?

„Nampa, nanpa, or girl hunting, is Japan’s most visible courtship ritual. Although it also takes place online and via Telefone clubs, the most famous form of nampa is „suto-nan“ (street nampa). Every weekend, across urban Japan, young men („nanpashi“) hang around busy streets or shopping arcades, trying to pick up passing girls.Sometimes the girl does the hard work – this is known as „gyaku nampa“ (reverse nampa) – but it’s much less common. Approaches vary from the cliched „Ocha demo shinai?“ (Won’t you have a tea with me?“) to more sophisticated tactics, but it’s generally pretty obvious what the guy is really after. For serious nanpashi, the aim is to get the young lady into a love hotel by the end of the night, but a (genuine) cell phone number is a decent consolation. The word „nampa“ was used in the Meiji period to refer to young men who spent too much time around women. Literally meaning „soft group“ as opposed to the more self-disciplined hard group, it carried a derogatory nuance which survives today. Since then, nampa has come to replace the loan phrase „garu hanto“ to refer to skirt chasing.

“From Japan For The Uninvited”

nanpa_attack11.jpg

So, Nanpa can be more or less understood as girl hunting.

This website is not only about japanese girls, I only liked the term. I focus on portraying especially Asian countries because i regard that area as the most exciting one. I hope the video guides, trip reports, hotel reviews, bar/club info, restaurant guides, spa/massage parlor info will be of help for people considering visiting those places or just to be kept updated how the recent situation looks like.

Global Nanpa is a lifestyle and travel brand. Global Nanpa was the first travel site worldwide which rigorously integrated self-made videos into its guides to give you the most authentic impression of places, people and events. Follow the adventures of cspielberger’s “Global Nanpa” as he looks for finding the true girl-friend experience while travelling around the world and meets a lot of cool characters along the way.

I am 31 years old, studied pharmaceutical sciences in Berlin, Germany and biomedical engineering at MIT, Cambridge, USA with a scholarship. I quitted my Ph.D. program but optained a M.Sc. degree, worked in academics and the pharma industry and am now an entrepreneur in the pharma/healthcare sector. Global Nanpa is my hobby. I try to entertain you with my travel&girls adventures. Global Nanpa is a registered trademark. All rights reserved.

The founding of Global Nanpa on January 5th, 2008 could have the same revolutionary long-term impact on society like the first edition of the Playboy in 1953. Everyone likes girls and travelling and what we are doing and showing here is the real world as you don’t know it from TV. We erase the lies society tries to brainwash you with, we break with common rules and most important we enjoy our life to the fullest, maximizing happiness and not profit, willing to take the risk not to accept the fears our society tries to inflict on its honorable citizens. Global Nanpa has the potential to change the lifestyle of millions of people, letting them reconsider their goals/dreams and how they manage their free time. Global Nanpa will shake the fundamental pillars of non-happy (almost all) societies very badly.

Before I started my “world tour”, I was believing what I got educated with.
There are lots of places I saw in the beginning where I didn’t had a camera with me, but nothing struck me like South East Asia.
I would say my real journey didn’t begin before my first Thailand trip in 2005. It was actually a Boston girl with whom I spent some debauchery time in Paris who recommended me to go to Thailand to get more relaxed. Damn, I didn’t expect that this would become life-changing.
I experienced there how life really works, started to look behind the curtain, questioned things and got to know how people behave in extreme situations.
The lies of the people in power was what I started to hate most : Exploitation, manipulation and corruption used for controlling the mass.
Therefore my goal is to bring as many people as possible into SEA. Once they had been there, they will be “screwed” forever and will never believe the lies anymore they get told.
The system/matrix will break apart and set us free.
That’s the mission of Global Nanpa.
