Shangri-la hotel Surabaya can be so sexy and the concept of Global Nanpa

In the pic above you see my friend K. That is probably one of my best pics I shot during the recent trip. I even use this picture as my mobile phone wallpaper. She is an extremely cool person and I am very lucky to got to know her. She had just come back from Dubai where she worked for Grand Hyatt Dubai. I will visit her again later this year and then she goes back to Dubai most likely. She got a B.Sc. in chemical engineering but went into hospitality probably because of better opportunities and more exciting work. The salaries being paid on Bali in hospitality are ridiculously low, no wonder why lots of girls in SEA really like to work in Saudia Arabia, but Dubai is having a lot of problems now as well. The construction boom is over for a long time and the chance that Dubai isn’t able to pay back its loans lies somewhere around 25%, incredible. Shanghai certainly has a much better and solid outlook. Their boom was/is based on much more fundamental developments.

The time with K. was even better than what I had with O. on Koh Chang over Loy Krathong last year. I will later release a special tribute video for her. We get along pretty well, she is smart and has a charming sense of humor. She is actually from Surabaya. This is also the reason why I made a spontaneous trip with her to Surabaya, still keeping my bookings running for Jakarta. So i had paid Grand Hyatt in Jakarta whereas I was staying in Shangri-la hotel Surabaya. But it was only one day anyway. The city looks a bit like Jakarta, but it is not so fast-paced, people have more time and are really friendly. The Grand Hyatt hotel in Jakarta is cool, but it looks cold and very business-like. The Shangri-la in Surabaya is the complete opposite : very open, colorful, javanese art on the walls, extremely friendly staff. Grand Hyatt closed their hotel in Surabaya sometime ago. I think Surabaya is certainly worth a 2-3 day visit. We visited some sights there, a nice restaurant, a shopping mall and in the evening we went to Blowfish which I like more than the one in Jakarta. Like ususal I only portray the places I recently visited and that I find worth mentioning. All those spas/massage parlors are “dirty” ones. I will include normal spas in a seperate list on the same page later on. Bangkok and Jakarta in my eyes are the very best places worldwide for an excellent massage : non-dirty, as well as dirty. I will update the list several times per year.

“Dirty ones” :

1. ALEXIS SPA, Alexis hotel, 7th flor

Most high upscale dirty spa in Jakarta. They have around 80 girls coming from Indonesia, China, Thailand and Russia/Uzbekistan. The Indonesian girls are the cheapest but prettiest ones in my eyes there.

2. MALIOBORO HOTEL&SPA
Gajah Mada Street, Kota area, near Gajahmada Plaza Shopping Centre

They have around 200 girls working there, building has 6 flors. It is not as dark as Alexis and easier to move around. They also have more expensive Chinese and Russian girls.

3. V2 LOUNGE, 4th flor
Jl. Gajahmada Duta Merlin Plaza, West Jakarta
Tel. : 02163865000

Stylish place, a bit more spacious than the Alexis spa with about 100 girls. The Indonesian girls are very sexy. Impressive bathing and work-out places. Feels like the “grown-up” version of Alexis.

4. EMPORIUM SPA

Extremely friendly staff. They have around 80 girls. Girls and place ranks a bit below the other 3 but still the fun level can be very high.

They have 20 girls and 1 stylish room. Manager is very friendlly.

6. HOTEL TRAVEL, Spa

They have around 200 girls, mostly average looking. The place is popular probably because of the low price level.

7. DELTA GUNUNG SAHARI (Puri Group spa)

This spa is non-dirty actually and really cheap. A 90 min aromatherapy costs 230k IDR for example. This spa is french decor styled. Mostly Asian customers in Kota, they are very friendly.

Normal spa :

Very professional organized spa. The design is beautiful like the entire hotel.

2. SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, Jalan Sudirman Kav.1

The Chi spa group is the only one worldwide I encountered so far that was able to guarantee you very qualified staff almost everywhere.

3. MANDARIN ORIENTAL, Jalan Thamrin

Very modern spa. Expensive but good.

Becoming a bargirl : Interview with an 18-year-old Thai girl

This video got shot around the very end of my  recent trip. As you can clearly hear, I was quiet wasted at that point of time. I wasn’t able to dig deep with my few questions. I will try it someday again. It was impossible to be more thoughtful there after what I had been through.

What impresses me though in this video is how natural she comes across and how open-minded and unspoilt she had been. After 1 or 2 years in this job, the eyes of the girls don’t glow anymore like her’s, they mostly will get colder and hardened. I was quiet lucky to catch her that night. Bargirls : you can love ‘em or hate ‘em. I love them, because they don’t cause emotional trouble for me. It is simple and with the right Asian girls the illusion can be very sweet.

The time I spent with bargirls during the recent trip I reduced quiet a bit. I spent most of my time with “good girls” or friends. Nevertheless, bargirls will maintain their fascination and joy for me and will remain a constant topic for Global Nanpa. I do learn a lot from bargirls, although often their personal development stopped at a certain level and they remain like children : playful, not worrying and open-minded. Because our everyday life is mostly so serious and full of bullshit, what a bargirl has to offer might be just what we need to escape the matrix.

Clubbing/Nightlife on Bali 2009 : Kuta, Legian Street, Seminyak

Here is my latest video of the clubbing/nightlife scene on Bali. I had a terrific time there as you can see in my videos and think Bali got a lot of potential, full of sexy girls, many japanese girls vacation there as well.
Places shown on Legian street are Skygarden, Bounty, Paddy’s, Embargo, Bali Bombing Memorial. In Seminyak I had a total blast at the brandnew club Hypnotique which has the same owner like Red Square in Jakarta. Special thanks to Hadi, Veronica and the Hypnotique crew.

Do you actually really believe that the 2002 Bali bombings were done by Indonesian people ? Think again, of course it was again an inside job of the USA, the CIA being the masterminds behind it.

Memories and considerations of former girls I stayed with

It is quiet funny, some of the girls I stay with, I usually don’t expect to ever see again. Sometimes I wonder what might had happened to the girls I met a long the way. It became impossible to stay in touch with all of them and sometimes the situation simply doesn’t allow anything of long-term friendship, often it would be just silly.
I wonder what might had happened to a few girls.
My website actually does help a lot that a few girls find the way back to contact me by often accidentally checking out some of my videos and my website later on.
Recently a girl I met on my  first Koh Samui trip (2006) contacted me again. We went together to Koh Phangan and celebrated Full Moon Party there over Songkran. She is a very simple girl, but with a good heart and very Thai. You see her picture above. It was the first girl with whom I started to modify my trips into more spontaneous ways.
The sexy Boracay beach babe found my website as well and contacted me also.

My ex-girl friend A. whom I got to know on my 3rd Thailand trip saw me recently online in Skype and contacted me again after a long time. I never had any doubts that she will score big-time. I seem to have a gift to meet very talented people along my way… I had been together with her for 1 1/2 years, she visited me in Germany and we went together to Spain and Italy. In Italy we actually split up when it became clear that I wasn’t ready for marriage.
Like I wrote in my older post from August 2008, she accomplished her goals : She married this former McKinsey SEA superstar who now works for an investment company (not such a cool job anymore, eih ? – better have your own company…) in Baihran, Middle East.

They had a traditional Thai style wedding in Sukhothai. Now hold yourself tight on your chair : They don’t have a marriage contract ! And he did pay a high dowry to her family.
They had lived together in Singapore for over a year. She herself did open 2 spas in Baihran now (stealing my ideas…), those spas are for women only though. She supports her younger sister studying in Australia.
I asked A. how she felt when she got married and she was stumped. Usually she has a quick answer for everything. She was telling how much her husbands parents loved the wedding and so on but she wasn’t able to talk about her own emotions. The thing is that she was always searching for perfection. Now she got plenty of money, but is it love ? This guy must have turned 50 now and got a son from a former marriage. He is from the Netherlands.
I also asked her if she sometimes misses her old, simple but free life in Bangkok and she replied with no which I cannot believe. Sometimes I see a few girls of her old gang when clubbing in Bangkok.
She is not really Thai if she doesn’t loves/misses her country.
But I also am very impressed how she managed all that in such a short time. That guy actually bought her a house on Sukhumvit Soi 31 in her name after just 6 months of knowing her. Damn it, she must had been good at pushing the right buttons. I also respect her for her own business capabilites now operating 2 spas. She also supports (donation) 2 kids in the Philippines and even visited their villages (in the slums). That impresses me, she worked herself into this position, she didn’t got it for free. I respect her way. I hope she finds happiness.

Inside G-Club Forte and my party flop at Club Noir, Bangkok

Of course I was visiting again my friends at Forte and had a good time partying around with a few girls there. My friend N. from The Pent to that time was on sponsored trip in Germany for selling the most memberships at BKCoolClub. Congrats ! On my last day in Bangkok I tried to organize a spontaneous party at Club Noir which flopped because there was simply not enough time to arrange things correctly. C. was so sweet and tried her best to help me, but there was no chance.

Club Noir is on Ratchadapisek, next to Emerald Hotel. This street is getting more and more interesting. Inch Bar on the street is pretty cool too. Ratchdapisek is better known for its immense number of upscale massage parlors like Poseidon and Caesaers.

The entrance tunnel at Club Noir is absolutely spectacular. In my eyes this club is one of SEA’s hottest currently.

I have to pay my respect to Chockchai for helping me out in a bad situation. Without him, I might had lost my face. Like you said, next time we will plan things with more time.

I am back now in hardcore work mode. Not much time to write, quiet a lot memories got deleted there as well but they come back looking at the vids. Here is a video of Blok M and Top Gun. Top Gun is certainly the best bar there. Got a chance to speak with the owner this time, staff is very friendly too. I am still not ready for writing more, I also haven’t converted much material yet. I am a bit dissapointed of the video quality still. Public video platforms only allow 720p maximum although I am shooting at 1024p (1920X1080), 24 Mbps. I have to downgrade the quality to make the size smaller and using 720p as well. Maybe my program (Voltaic) for converting AVCHD into mpeg is not ideal for Final Cut as well, but it is the only really useful one I know. Still this camcorder (Canon Legria HFS100) is a lot more fun to use than my older one.

The videos already look pretty much unreal for me, watching it right now.
