Ubud, Bali : That happy place and moment

That picture above is my all-time favorite I shot so far in South East Asia. Because it expresses everything I am mainly looking for : True happiness, that special moment you want that it lasts forever.

My life is perfect currently, there is nothing I could ask for more : I am healthy, still quite young, business is developing well, collected a rich amount of experiences, memories and I have a few good friends. I would never trade my life with anyone, not a billionaire nor a celebrity. Why should I ? This would certainly lead to unhappiness : The truth is that 99% of those billionaires would give away almost all of their fortune to cut their age by half and to become young, healthy again, to regain their sexual power and to have a few honest friends again. It is getting more difficult to enjoy life once you become old and sick - money is just paper, it won’t heal you and medical advances are simply not good enough yet to really reverse engineer our bodies to live longer with an optimal healthy body. Maybe biomedical engineering will never be able to stop or reverse engineer the ageing process. Maybe uploading our brain into new fresh grown bodies will never work. All the people betting/hoping for that might be screwed. So, better don’t wait for it, the time is ticking away.

Most real celebrities would give away most of their fortune/fame to gain back their privacy. You will get isolated from the public and need security wherever you go. Not a path that looks like a happy life for me. You see, as a normal person in full control of your choices and knowledge of your abilities, you can work your way towards your own personal, ultimate happiness. For me it was a long and not an easy road to get there, but now I achieved it. I am fully aware of my own luck and will continue collecting extraordinary memories and experiences. I am just at the beginning of true freedom and happiness.

Jakarta Underground : A tribute to Toni Wibisono

This is a tribute to my friend Toni, manager of Top Gun, Blok M, Jakarta. I was shocked when Lita told me in the Top Gun office that Toni had passed away a few weeks ago.  I got to know him as an extremely friendly, smart and down-to-earth person. He was very well informed and knew what was going on in the Jakarta underground.  It is a shame. He died too young, officially from a heart attack.

Now Lita and A. Haris are managing the place. They are not complaining but you can see that they must have suffered quiet a lot the past weeks. There is simply so much work to do and they don’t have that much staff. I really hope they are able to keep things rolling there. Lita and A. Haris are both under 30 years old I suppose. It won’t be easy. I like them very much and hope they can keep the spirit of Toni alive there.
Special thanks to Lita for always sharing time when I visit the place.

Here is the video :

I also by chance  met the regional manager (area vice president) of the Hyatt Group in Jakarta. Mr. P. Stettler. He is from Switzerland. I saw him walking around  in the executive lounge, so I asked if he got 15 minutes for a chat which he had.
He is a serious and very capable manager. We mainly talked about the bombings. Of course in his position he is not able to really talk free and I fully understand that he has to remain political correct in some ways. But his facial expression told me that he sees important issues similar like me. He strongly agreed on that it is absolutely impossible to bring such bombs into the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton without the knowledge of several people and helpers in the hotel.
The management of the Grand Hyatt Jakarta in general is really cool. There is E. Hirawan, the No.2 guy of the hotel, half German half Indonesian. I observe him pretty often whenever staying in their hotel. We even one time flew in the same plane to Germany from Thailand.
Then there is F. Marigliano, an Italian guy, director of food and beverage and to round things up they have an Australian fitness trainer. When you see the management hanging out at Burgundy bar, it is a cool picture. A truely diverse team who are doing a fine job. They really make a good impression on me.
I actually didn’t plan for this, but I did quite a bit of business development in the hospitality sector in Indonesia and Thailand.
By chance I shortly exchanged contact info in Bangkok with R. Stampfer, the regional vice president of the Four Seasons. He is German and actually not that old yet. I hope to get to know him better. He appears to be friendly on my first impression.
Their spa in Bangkok is small but very good, managed by Jitrawan P.
I also got allowance from Mr. N. Dana, Jimbaran Bay Four Seasons, to shoot video there, which was pretty cool. Thanks also to Karma Kandara Bali staff and Grand Hyatt Bali.

Psycho Killer : A French and a German dude clubbing the night away in Jakarta

Jakarta is probably the darkest and wildest clubbing town across whole SEA. Like I said before, surprisingly there are a few French and German expats around. The names the girls carry in Indonesia are also more European influenced. Plenty of girls really have French names. In Thailand the names are mainly pure Thai. In the Philippines they are more American influenced but in Indonesia they are often very French influenced. In general I regard the Indonesian girls to be pretty smart, they mostly have the ability for critical thinking and are not yet so manipulated by mass media. I think it is rather good that Internet is so damn slow there and expensive, which also means that online dating in Indonesia is close to the lowest rate across SEA, but sadly platforms like Facebook are on the rise there now too.

There is no closing time in Jakarta, that’s why similar like in Berlin, Germany, the party nights can get really long and wild. When the French dude recommended that we should go to Borobudur next, I thought he is crazy going to Yogyakarta now. Didn’t know that it was also a club at Jakarta…We had some good laughs afterwards. My first night in Jakarta was pushing me to the limits. My last day in Bangkok also brought me to a similar energy level. I almost missed my flight. Next time I would like to check out Bandung shortly as well. It is about 2.5 hours by car away from Jakarta.

The Forte again : Absolute Sex on the Beach, Bangkok, 2009

Always good to be back at the Forte. Mr. Ornsri and Chockchai are like father and son figures who are one of the greatest teams I met in entire South East Asia nightlife. They got cool ideas, work hard, have a strong honor code, are trustworthy and are currently transforming the sophisticated Bangkok nightlife entertainment sector.

Seems like I sometimes cause a bit of trouble, nothing serious but unneccessary. I should focus my mind more on important things. Apologies especially to Nadia, my behavior at the Pent was unacceptable. But gladly we were able to neutralize the negative energy afterwards over SMS. Thanks again Chokchai for having an eye on me, already the second time you helped out.

Thanks friends : Keep smiling - I will never forget

I really want to thank my friends and people helping who made this extraordinary experience possible. Also many thanks to all the people along the way, special regards to the sweet girls : take care and please keep your good hearts. It is hard to give something back for what I got in just 10 days. Yeah right, all that happened in only 10 days, absolutely unbelievable. It seems like I really fit into that area. Things mostly seem to work out there and I don’t know why ? I hope that lucky angel will continue to stay with me. Damn it, is that really me ?

I haven’t even started yet to convert any video. I am simply extremely busy with pharma retail work non-stop in Berlin. I also have to go to Portugal for a conference for 4 days next week. I would prefer staying here right now because I simply have too much to do here but I have to attend that and burn away some time I could use better. So, to give you a pre-taste trailer of the recent trip, I start with some nice pictures taken with my videocamera.

Lady Bar 2 from Xavier Durringer also known as “The ape gives Buddha honey” or “Up to you part 2 ” or “Don’t give away flowers in Thailand part 2″.

The second part of the movie will be shown on the French TV channel Arte on Friday, September 11th at 8:45 pm. I certainly will watch it :

“Never believe what the Thai girls say. 99 percent of what they say is bullshit. They all have the same book to screw us. The number of guys that have lost everything there, it’s incredible. But that’s how it is, the guys know but they get screwed all the same.
Thailand is what ? Pinocchio land !”

You can watch a trailer of part 1 here :

Global Nanpa : Leisure and Seducing in Style

I just came back from my last trip (Jakarta, Bali, Bangkok), which was very inspiring, fun, stresssful and full of mind-blowing experiences. I think this nostalgic picture above of Sierra’s first mid-80s adventure game explains pretty well what currently flows through my mind. I played that game in the early 90s and was intrigued by the concept and its success. It reminds me now that I would have never thought to be able to live a life as I had just done during the recent trip, also taking into account that I was born into a normal, western, upper-middle class family. The most striking thing is that a decent percentage of people could enjoy their life a similar way. This blog/videos help a little on the way for newbies to explore the territory, later just see it as entertainment for remembering your own good times and in addition get updated what currently goes on there. It will take a few weeks to work through the material.

Damn it. What a ride !!!
