Bangkok’s Top 3 hotels : Four Seasons, Shangri-la and Mandarin Oriental inside

It is funny what impact my idea of self-made video hotel walks had. Lonely Planet (BBC) was jumping on me pretty early in April 2008, but they seem to have given it up now, focussing on VERY interesting countries like the USA now, the American Journey, trying to keep their people within the mind-fuck bubble. Their video competition in 2008 was of ridiculous low quality. What an insane waste of money !

Lots of other people followed my style which is legitimate but, call me arrogant, nobody ventured as deep as Global Nanpa. Most important : I am independent. I might not offer a professional video quality, but I am objective/not manipulated and don’t get/accept money for it. I certainly think that this way of video guides you see below will shape the way people start searching for a hotel or other stuff.

I prefer to talk, portray things as an authority. Platforms like Tripadvisor became totally useless because of the amount of stupid members overflooding it with information that nobody can look through anymore. Moreover I don’t want to know how much hired reviews and ratings are in there anyway. Arranging Facebook button comments on the main page of a hotel, like a few hotels are doing now, looks totally unserious : what the hell is the management thinking there ? I would never book a hotel that links a Facebook (better known as F_c_book) page on their homepage….Some people who don’t understand the internet have no clue what they are actually doing there and how it could develop and burn them.

Global Nanpa is finally there again to fight the establishment with innovation, to venture deeper, giving insider insights into places nobody came up with before and contributing info that speaks for really knowing the people/places.

Youtube starts again to delete videos from me, existing more than a year already like the naughty, wild Pattaya girl video, they freeze view counters, make videos non-findable/unlinked and moreover they interrupt uploads where they fear the impact might be too high, that’s why I only give them my crappy videos now. We always knew it…

Well, Global Nanpa fights its way through the jungle…that’s the task of a pioneer after all.

1. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL, 155 Rajadamri Road

Inner city located medium sized top-notch hotel. A lot of the rooms have recently undergone renovations. If you prefer not to stay at the riverside (Oriental and Shangri-la) and moreover if you don’t like the Sukhumvit area (anymore), Rajadamri Road is the place to be. Excellent inner city location, great service and staff, beautiful designed rooms and charming, modern traditional Thai atmosphere. I am starting to feel a bit sick of the Sukhumvit area, that’s why it now became my favorite hotel in BKK and I already found my room number of prefence after looking at a few top rooms which I keep saved for future visits. I still haven’t reviewed its closest competitor the Grand Hyatt, located just next to it. The management is making a decision soon about renovating its rooms completely, so I wait for it to happen positively.

2. SHANGRI-LA, 89 Soi Wat Suan Plu, Riverside

Best prive/value hotel at the riverside. The whole complex became really huge, the new Krung Thep wing is spectacular and offers beautiful rooms with amazing views. Staff is super-friendly, spa and swimming pool are among the best in the city. It is the place I would recommend to everyone who wants to stay away from the red light district as far away as possible and just came for a relaxing holiday and not business. I would say all hotels at the riverside are in general not girl-friendly which I regard as welcome. There must be a few escapes left if you don’t want to see it, moreover it would be disrespectful to their places - you get a feeling for that pretty quick.

3. MANDARIN ORIENTAL, 48 Oriental Avenue, Riverside

The most famous and one of the most expensive hotels in Bangkok. I tried to figure out what makes this place so famous : It’s the service and prestige, not the rooms, restaurants or other facilities. They employ an immense number of staff considering the amount of guests, you even get your own butler. Everyone I met from the hotel was super-friendly and the room was excellent too, however I prefer the structure and design of my last room, deluxe suite, at Four Seasons more, but the Oriental wins the score for the sweetest bathrooms. Moreover the location was a big obstacle for me to keep my schedule in time. A place only for wealthy, respectful holiday makers and if for business then for meetings/conferences in that area only. The type of people I met at the swimming pool were not my cup of tea and that’s the place were you really get to know the hotel guests. Maybe in 20 years I am ready for it.
