Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Angkor Wat is the world’s largest Hindu templex complex being built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II.
If you would want to construct something like Angkor Wat in modern days, it might take 300 years to complete…
Angkor Wat is the major driver to bring tourists (money) into Cambodia. It is an impressive site, definitely worth a visit. But for me, having seen it once in my life is enough. Most I enjoyed the jungle temple and seeing those old trees growing on/into the stones.
I don’t think this place is well managed for tourists moreover, the Thais would have done a better job.
This place is full of tourists and when it gets hot, it is not a nice to hang out. I tried to speed up as much as possible, seeing almost every angle, getting an overview and trying to rush on. My video there is poor but for people who have never been there it gives an ok, authentic impression. I think in total it took me 5 hours to explore if fully, some people spend there 2-3 entire days, well…
We were driving to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh in the early morning and came back in the night. The drive there took us 4 1/2 hours, backwards it took 7 hours. A bridge (over which we came before that day) collapsed, causing serious damage around there. I have no idea if anyone died/got hurt because of it. Shit, when we went back, there was traffic, a big mess and cars got stuck in those stones, bridge parts, metal, around. A few trucks were lieing sideways and the van in front of us got stuck at the slope. Big shit, most people, like us too, had to get out of the car and to push it over plenty of stones (around 50m). The police organization was not good, but at least they tried their best.
