Falabella, Royal Sports Club, 100 Ratchadamri road, Bangkok

Falabella is one of Bangkok’s most exclusive night clubs. The place is well structured and managed.
The entrance is at 100 Ratchadamri road. I had never heard of it before and there is also no written info in the internet about the place. Butler Dome at St. Regis hotel actually recommended the place to me because the hotel is just about 100 meters away from it. I was shocked how much I liked it. The guests were extremely friendly and you feel that most have travelled as well. You often see it in their eyes how they look at things and how they behave. I didn’t see a single farang there though.
It’s the grown-up version of Funky Villa and a bit more VIP. People tend to be in their 30s and 40s. The girls were also more old, but very elegant dressed and I saw some hot ones as well. I am getting older too. The main room of Funky Villa at weekends I have to avoid already because it is just a steam room. At Falabella they make sure that things run more comfortable for the “older generation”. I am sure to be back and the older I get, the more likely I return.

Funky Villa, Thonglor, Bangkok : May 2011

I was a bit lazy carrying around my assistant light. My camera alone doesn’t make me that flexible anymore and the lighting in addition was just often too much to bare for me. Sorry for the dark shots but sometimes I like to enjoy a few things also without my camera stuff.

Funky Villa is a very unique place in Bangkok. It is the only place at the moment that is able to bring them all together. They score on diversity : you see sexy people, ugly people, rich people, poor people, stylish people, etc…

Everyone knows that they are the undisputed #1 of Bangkok’s nightlife sector and they know it too. They don’t charge entrance fees but the beer and alcoholic beverages prices are very high for most Thai people. It is also one of the only places where they request passport copies for foreigners at the entrance. At least in Bangkok you don’t run into any passport scam shit like taxi drivers are currently pulling it ugly at a few clubs in Jakarta.

I would wish that the main room would play not so much mainstream music but only that way you can draw such crowds. Demo next to it was also always packed now when I went there. Nung and Boy established here an extremely successful and trend-setting club. Congratulations.

Wine Bridge Plus, Lang Suan, Bangkok

It was raining very strong when we went there, so we only stayed there shortly and tried to get a first impression. My camera was also still a little wet, so this video is nothing but crappy.
Wine Bridge is an elegant, chill-out place. The music is not too loud, and some people seem to have had real conversations…I spotted a few cute girls as well. The people around looked friendly and well-behaving, a bit something like an after-work place, some still wear their business outfits. Girls looked like real, good girls (with jobs I mean…). They offer a broad selection of wines as well, but I have no clue about that.
The place already exists for more than 15 years.

A Journey Through Vietnam – by Leon Visser

This must be the coolest video I have seen so far of Vietnam. I am really impressed. Those 2 guys are from the Netherlands and they enjoyed having some “tour-guides”, imported from Thailand. Their honeys don’t look bad and they seem to have a good time together. On the one hand it shows well how easily the westerners fall for the SEA girls and on the other hand also how available “normal” girls are for such spontaneous trips with white foreigners. I would not call them good girls but also not bad girls. For Bangkok I would say such “normal” girls are best to find for white foreigners at Bed Supperclub or Flixx or Shock 39. Those girls don’t have fixed jobs and they will take every opportunity they get to travel the country with, in their terms, quite wealthy and good-looking guys. The attraction on both ends is just really high.
In 3:25min you see a really cool restaurant spot. Thumbs up guys !
One of them seems to have made photos for National Geographic magazine. Check the video :

Achi likes Justin Bieber : Sakit banget (really sick)

18-year-old Achi was the highlight among the Indonesian girls I stayed with.

achi_mulia_hotel_2_globalnanpa

You recognize that Achi is my type again : sweet smile, innocent looks and friendly, big eyes. Girls like her simply didn’t got fucked up by society yet. Once the eyes turn cold and the behavior gets bitchy, I feel that the girl is lost and I won’t go for her anymore (=calling them westernized or monetarized or globalized…).
Girls like Achi you won’t find in Pattaya or Angeles City, you understand why it is often worth to venture a little further outside if you search for…more.

Achi was using google translate all the time. I have never used it before, but because her English wasn’t that good, it was really helpful. And yes, she did write also other things than the 2 screens you see here.
Achi is a true cutie :

Global Nanpa : The Nothing Man, 1/2

Here comes the buzzer beater. This video is a summary of the best scenes of the last trip. I doubt life can get any better than that from this level on. I have never seen any other video where I saw something that I liked more than what I am doing here. For me personally I am living my dream for this moment : it is my life, my money, my time. My values might change over time and then I simply do something else later on, but right now I am very happy that I can do just that…

The Big Mango

bargirl_bangkok_globalnanpa

The Big Mango

This Big Mango in my eyes is the world’s best city. When I visited Bangkok for the first time in 2005, I already had the feeling that this would become a love-affair. It just felt right to be there and things didn’t change since that.
When we explored the city by helicopter I recognized how little I know of the city. I don’t think it is really important to know every angel there, but there is plenty I still want to learn and explore. The heart of Bangkok are its natural friendly, Buddhistic people who are strongly connected with the king. I don’t think it is correct/fair to say that everything went downhill and that it just became a touristic, idiot hub. It depends on the areas and tell me any other place that’s better taking it all together. Jakarta has more diverse characters, it feels more grown-up, but they don’t have that open, free feeling : too much is happening just inside buildings there.

One of the most frequented questions I get is how much money you need to enjoy it the way I present it in my videos. I thought a long time about it and experienced the very luxury but also the budget end. I didn’t start staying in Bangkok at the Jim Thompson suite. My first hotel was the President Solitaire. I payed for my first room and first stay THB 2200/day. Let me tell you what : I was so extremely happy with this room, I could not believe that I was now able to afford a room that has such a nice marble bathroom. I was blasted away from the Thai hospitality and got the chills when I entered my room. I think the first time Jim Thompson didn’t make me happier, although I still consider it to be the best room of a hotel in Bangkok and Bangkok is No.1 worldwide in my eyes.
The point is that at a certain level, the extra luxury doesn’t bring you proportional extra fun.
Interesting is that according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the normal, average tourist spends around THB 4000 per day, a little more than USD 100. And I believe that this for a tourist is just about right to do everything without real limitations if you are smart. Of course there always is no open end. But I would never go in below THB 4000 per day, it won’t be fun. As an expat or resident the budget could be decreased a lot. Beware that taken into assumption that your currency might inflate at a rate of 2.5%, your fixed money value will decrease by half after 2 decades.

Honestly speaking you can basically fuck all my guides if you search there for eventually having the ultimate day. They can help you for getting an impression, give you ideas and a better overview. Everyone has a different taste, I prefer to structure here everything as an authority because in first priority I am doing this site for myself, it is a collection database of my own travel memories.

Do you really need to pay THB 5000 for having the best massage experience of Thailand ? Hell no, you only pay that if you want to be secluded/safe from the real world, housing in pure luxury while getting the treatment. Some of my most memorable massages were THB 250, 90 min Thai massages in some dingy parlors, located in small Sois.
The picture is very similar for Thai food. My best Tom Yum Goong I also didn’t had a 5-star Thai restaurant. Does this now all mean that I reverse back and only stay at the budget places ? No, I will continue visiting the whole spectrum because I think I experience most that way. The point I want to explain is that even if you cannot afford the luxury places, just be happy with what you have and that you found Bangkok instead of dieing in ignorance without knowing heaven.

I want to thank a few people who helped and supported me on the last trip to make this video and following happening : Jakob, Thomas, Vann, Em, Twopee, Michael, Jah, Tar, Cherry, Fai, Nadia, Kat, Dream, Ann, Lookpad, Michaela, Patrick, Advance Aviation, Peninsula hotel Bangkok, Four Seasons hotel Bangkok, Dusit D2, BKcoolclub, The Pent, Funky Villa, Bangkok Pattaya hospital, Baccara, Rainbow 4. Many thanks for letting me keep the memories inside this video and I hope it enjoys/motivates/inspires other people as well :

In the mood for love restaurant, Sukhumvit Soi 36, Bangkok

This restaurant got inspired from the chinese movie which is set in Hongkong 1962. I especially still have the music of that masterpiece from 2000 in mind. The interior of the restaurant really has an old Hongkong/Shanghai flair. The atmosphere and the guests are most remarkable of this unusual place. The food is good, not fantastic; the staff lacks a little training but these errors are hardly visible. Such a venue is much more a restaurant I like to visit again and again than a hotel restaurant. Sorry to say that but I simply prefer hanging out at small to medium-sized boutique restaurants. Some hotel restaurants are fantastic in Bangkok, but they mostly appear sterile and I somehow feel locked away / caged. I prefer a restaurant that you easily enter from the street and that has a boutique charm as that one :
